Creating Flower Abstracts

March 27, 2012  •  Leave a Comment

Flowers continue as a central focus of my photography since it is such a colorful and energizing spring subject.  I enjoy watching the fluid changes of a flowers life cycle from bud, to peak bloom to wilting and dying.  The cycles can occur quickly as one flower begins to wilt and another begins to bud.  These two images were my attempt to capture flowers at a local garden and create images that were meaningful and expressive.

For this first image, I applied slight movement to the lens as the photograph was captured to create a painter-like abstract style.

For this second image, I began with the lens up close only displaying the flower bud in the center.  I then zoomed out to create the movement, intentionally choosing to keep the one bud in the center of the photograph.
