New Years' Geese

I love to get up early and be outside to see the first sunrise of the year.  I see many sunrises each year, but there is just something about being out there to welcome the sun as it rises for the first time.  This year I had a vision in my head of what I wanted to try and capture near Lake Needwood involving a field, old fence and the glow of the sun rising in the beautiful magenta and blue sky.  Well, the weather did not bring such a sunrise.  It was extremely overcast and grey with thick clouds.  The positive side to this was that it was warmer than I had expected.  I stood there watching deer jump a fence far in the distance and just paused to enjoy being out in stillness of the start of the year.  Stillness, but certainly not quiet.  In the distance I could hear the geese squawking so I headed toward Lake Needwood to see what all of the commotion was about.  When I got to the bank I just sat there and watched the geese.  There must have been 500 or more.  I envisioned they were wishing each other a wonderful year to come and then I sat and watched as group by group they flew off to begin a year of adventure.

Wishing each of you a soaring start to a happy, healthy and adventure filled 2013!!!
