Fearless Sharing

January 13, 2015  •  Leave a Comment

I recently spent time photographing the sunset on Half Mile Beach at Reid State Park. I had visited in December and was glad to return early this year to create images during a vibrant winter sunset. Fearlessly sharing images is on the forefront of my mind as I dive into January. I know for myself getting my work out there is always a process. I am out adventuring as much as I can be. Getting myself to hunker down and get started required taking this past weekend to set limits: get organized, work on my website, and make a gallery of prints available. The three abstract images of the waves at sunset led me to start by making the Abstract Gallery the first to be released. 2015 will be about continuing my adventure journey and getting my best body of work out on my website, blog, and other social channels. More images coming soon and I will update you more soon.

Why Fearlessly Sharing?
I tend to be a strong critic of my work which is a good thing to a point but can also be prohibitive at times. Although I try to process and share a few images, I usually have a handful of images that I "choose" from each shoot initially (I flag them in Adobe Lightroom for those curious software folks out there), I edit them, then I let them sit for a period of time, then I return to edit some more, think about sharing the image, and then instead of sharing I hesitate. Sometimes an image is eventually brought into the world, but many times it does not. I want to change this. To kick myself in gear, I set a time frame to get at least 20 images ready and up on my website and am thrilled to have done so. It was a very reasonable goal and setting a mini time constraint forced me to make "final for now" decisions so that I can move forward. I am always continuing to hone my craft, expand my vision, and create new "best works." There is no better time than right now to share my art and I truly hope that it is inspiring and encourages you to create, live a great story to share, and spend time in nature- soaking in the beauty, refreshing the body and mind, and preserving our natural lands for generations to come.
